Drumroll Please: Results of the Wendy R. Brewster, MD, PhD, Young Investigator Research Awards Competition
Five regional teams vied to see who could raise the most money for the endowment.

On Friday, we challenged every SGO 2025 Annual Meeting on Women’s Cancer attendee to join a regional team and make a gift — of any size — to the Foundation for Women’s Cancer (FWC) to support research and honor the legacy of Wendy R. Brewster, MD, PhD. As the meeting draws to a close, the results are in, and the competition was a success!
Thanks to the generosity of more than 230 donors, we exceeded our goal of $50,000 to support the endowment, funding FWC Young Investigator Research Endowment in cervical and endometrial cancer.
The South Team Y’all — We Got This, led by Warner Huh, MD, won for the most money raised by a regional team: more than $12,000 and over 80 donors.
The donor who made the single largest donation is Carolyn Muller. She will receive a beautiful Hermes scarf in honor of Wendy.
Diane Yamada, MD, team captain for the Midwest Honey Badgers, said this fundraiser for the FWC and for the Wendy Brewster Young Investigator Fund is important to her on many levels.
“I was a recipient of an FWC grant very early in my career, so FWC has been instrumental in that way,” she said. “On a personal level, Wendy was my dearest friend in the world. She died of pancreatic cancer way too early. She really wanted to pay it forward. So, this young investigator award and everything it represents for the FWC is what she really would have wanted. I hope it will help the careers of many young investigators.”
Rob Coleman, MD, team captain for the Dream Builders: International, agreed.
“We have to engage all of these young people and join the fight to change the standard of care. We can’t be satisfied. We have got to keep moving. The only way to do that is through the FWC,” he said.
A heartfelt thank-you to all who contributed to support in honor of Wendy and her passion for women’s health and the next generation dedicated to advancing cervical and endometrial cancer research.
Just because the competition is over, it is never too late to donate to the endowment.
